Come and Welcome to Jesus Christ

COME and WELCOME TO JESUS CHRIST. (12)

But again, Theſe Words (caſt out) have [gap] ſpecial Look to what will be hereafter eve[gap] at the Day of Judgment For then, and no[gap] till then, will be the great Anathema a[gap] Caſting out, made manifeſt, even manifeſt [gap] Execution. Therefore here to ſpeak as [gap] this, and that under theſe two Heads. As,

1. Or the caſting out it ſelf.

2. Of the Pla[gap] into which they ſhall [gap] caſt, that ſhall then be caſt out.

Firſt, The Caſting out it ſelf ſtandeth [gap] Two Things.

1. In a Preparatory Work.

2. In the Manner of executing the Act

The Preparatory Work ſtandeth in [gap] Three Things.

Firſt, It ſtandeth in their Separation [gap] have not come to him, from them that [gap] at that Day. Or thus: At the Day of [gap] great Caſting out, thoſe that have not [gap] come to him, ſhall be ſeparated from [gap] that have; for them that have, he will [gap]

caſt out When the Son of Man ſhall come in his Glory, and all the Holy Angels with him then [gap]e [gap]hall be [gap] the Throne of his Glory, and before him ſhall [gap]e [gap] Nations, and he ſhall ſe [gap]rate them [gap] another, at the Shepherd di [gap]ideth the Sh[gap]p [gap] the Goats, Mat 25.31, 32.

This dreadful [gap] on therefore ſhall then [gap]e made betwix[gap] them that (now) come to Chriſt, and them that come not. And good Reaſon; for ſince they would not with us, [gap] one to him, now they have Time; why ſhould they ſtand with us, when Judgment is come

Secondly, They ſhall be placed before him according to their Condition; they that have come to him in great dignity, even at the Right Hand, for He will in no wiſe caſt 'em [gap]ut: But the reſt ſhall be ſet at his Left [gap]and; the place of Diſgrace and Shame; for [gap]hey did not come to him for Life.

Diſtinguiſh'd alſo ſhall they be by fit Terms. [gap]hoſe that come to him he calleth Sheep, but [gap]e reſt are frowiſh Goats. And he ſhall ſe [gap]arate them one from another, as the Shepherd [gap]videth the Sheep from the Goats; and the [gap]heep will be ſet on his Right Hand (next [gap]eaven Gate, for they came to him) but the [gap]oats on the Left, to go from him into Hell, [gap]ecauſe they are not of his Sheep

Thirdly, Then will Chriſt proceed to Con [gap]ion of thoſe that came not unto him; and [gap]ill ſay, I was a Stranger, and ye took me not in, or [gap] not come unto me. Their Excuſe of them [gap]ves▪ he will ſlight as Dirt, and proceed to [gap]eir final Judgment Now, when theſe wretch [gap] Rejecters of Chriſt, ſhall thus be ſet before

him, and Convicted; this is the Preparat[gap] Work, upon which follows the Manner of e[gap] curing the Act, which will be done.

Firſt, In the Preſence of all his Holy Ange[gap]

Secondly, In the preſence of all them that their Life time came to him, by ſaying un[gap] them, Depart ye Curſed, into everlaſting F[gap] prepared for the Devil and his Angels, with a Reaſon annexed to it: For you were cruel[gap] me and mine, particularly diſcovered in the Words; For I was an Hungred, and ye gave [gap] no Meat: Thirſty, and ye gave me no Drink, was a Stranger, and ye took me not in; Nak[gap] and Cloathed me not; Sick and in Priſon, and [gap] viſited not me, Mat 25, 41, 42 &c.

Laſtly, Now it remains that we ſpeak of [gap] Place into which theſe ſhall be caſt, which [gap] the General, you have heard already, to [gap] the Fire prepared for the Devil and his Ange[gap] But in Particular, it is thus deſcribed.

Firſt, I[gap] is called T[gap]phet; For Tophet is orde[gap] ed of old, yea, for the King (the Lucifer) it prepared, he hath made it deep & large, the P[gap] thereof is Fire and much Wood, and the Brea[gap] of the Lord, like a ſtream of Brimſtone do[gap] kindle it, Iſa. 30.32.

Secondly, It is called Hell. It is better for th[gap] to enter into Life, halt or lame, than having two F[gap] to be caſt into Hell. Mark 9 45

Thirdly, It is called the Wine Preſs of [gap] Wrath of God: and the Angel thruſt in [gap] Sickle into the Earth and gathered the Vi[gap] the Earth (that is them that did not come [gap] Chriſt) and Caſt them into the great Wi[gap] Preſs of the Wrath of God, Rev. 14.19.

Fourthly, It is called a Lake of Fire: [gap]

whoſover was not found Written in the Book of Life, was caſt into the Lake of Fire, Rev. 10.15.

Fifthly, It is called a Pit. Thou haſt ſaid in thy Heart I will aſcend into Heaven, I will [gap]ealt my Throne above the Stars of God, I will it alſo upon the Mount of the Congregation, in [gap]he ſides of the North. — Yet thou ſhalt be [gap]rought to Hell to the ſides of the Pit, Iſa, 14. [gap]3.14, 15.

Sixthly, It is called a Bottomleſs Pit, out of which the Sm[gap]ak and the Locuſt came, and into which the Dragon was caſt; and it is called Bottomleſs, to ſhew the Endleſneſs of the fall [gap]hat they will have in it, that come not in the [gap]cceptable time to Jeſus Chriſt Revelations 9.11. Chap 10.3.

Seventhly, It is called Outer Darkneſs: Bind [gap]im Hand and Foot, and [gap]ſt him into Outer Darkneſs, and caſt ye the Unprofitable Servant [gap]nto utter Darkneſs, there ſhall be Weeping [gap]nd Gnaſhing of Teeth, Mat. 22.[gap]3. ch. 15.13.

E[gap]ghthly, It is called a Furnace of Fire. At [gap]erefore the Tares are gathered and burned in [gap]e Fire, ſo ſhall it be in the end of the World▪

[gap]he Son of Man ſhall ſend forth has Angels, and he [gap]ll gather out of his K[gap]ngdom all things that offend, [gap]d them that do Iniquity, and ſhall caſt them into a [gap]rnace of Fire there ſha[gap]l be w[gap]ling and gnaſhing [gap] teeth: And again, So ſhall [gap]t be in the End of [gap]e World▪ the Angels ſh[gap]ll come forth, and ſ[gap]ver the [gap]icked from the J[gap]ſt, and ſhall [gap]aſt them into a Fur [gap]ce of Fire; there ſhall be wa[gap]ling and gnaſhing of [gap]eth, Mat. 13 41, 42, 43 4[gap] 4[gap] 5[gap].

Laſtly, It may not be [gap] if in the Conclu [gap]on of this, I ſhew in a few Words to what [gap] things that Torment them in this [gap] are

compared. Indeed ſome of them have been occaſionally mentioned already; as, That they are compared.

Firſt, To Wood that burneth.

Secondly, To Fire.

Thirdly, To Fire and Brimſtone. But,

Fourthly, It is compared to a Worm, a gnawing Worm, a never dying Gnawing Worm They are caſt into Hell, where their Wo[gap] dieth not, Mark 9.44.

Fifthly, It is called Unquenchable Fire: H[gap] will gather his Wheat into his Garner; But will bur[gap] up the Chaff with Unquenchable Fire, Mat. 3 1[gap] Luke 3.17.

Sixthly, It is called everlaſting Deſtructions [gap] The Lord Jeſus ſhall deſcend from Heaven with h[gap] mighty Angels in flaming Fire, taking Vengea[gap]ce o[gap] them that know not God; and they that obey not th[gap] Goſpel of our Lord Jeſus Chriſt, who ſhall be puniſhe[gap] wit everlaſting Deſtruction from the Preſence of th[gap] Lord and from the Glory of his Power, 2 Theſ. 1 7, 8, [gap]

Seventhly, It is called Wrath with out mi[gap] ture, and is given them in the Cap of his Indignation. If any man worſhip the Beaſt, and his Imag[gap] and receive his Mark in his Forehead, or in h[gap]s han[gap] the ſame ſhall drink of the Wrath of God, which i[gap] poured out without mixture in the Cup of his Indignation; he ſhall be tormented with Fire and Brimſton[gap] In the preſence of the holy Angels, and in the Preſence of the Lamb, Rev. 14 19

Eighthly, It is called the ſecond Death. [gap] Death and Hell were caſt into the Lake of Fire, th[gap] is the ſecond Death Bleſſed and holy i[gap] be that [gap] part in the firſt Reſurrection, on ſuch the ſecond D[gap] hath no power, Rev 12.1[gap]. ch [gap].6.

Ninthly, It is called Eternal Damnation. [gap]

[gap] that ſhall blaſpheme againſt the Holy Ghoſt, [gap] never Forgiveneſs, but is in danger of e [gap]nal Damnation.

[gap]a! Theſe Three Words!

[gap]verlaſting Puniſhment!

[gap]ernal Damnation!

[gap]nd for Ever and Ever!

[gap]ow they will Gnaw and Eat up all the Ex [gap]ation of the End of the Miſery of the Caſt [gap] [gap]y Sinners. And the Smoke of their Torment of [gap] [gap]d up for ever and ever, and they have no reſt [gap]o[gap] night, &c. Rev 11 11.

Their Behaviour in Hell is ſet forth by Four [gap]gs, a I know of.

[gap] By calling for help and relief in vain.

[gap] By Weeping.

[gap]. By Wailing.

[gap] By G[gap]ſhing of Teeth.

[gap]nd now we come to the ſecond thing that [gap] be enquired into; namely,

[gap]ow it appears that Chriſt hath power to [gap] or to caſt out: For by theſe Words. I will [gap]o wiſe caſt out, he declareth that he hath [gap]r to do both.

[gap]ow this Enquiry admits us to ſearch into [gap] things.

How it appears that he hath power to ſave.

How it appears that he hath power to caſt [gap]

[gap]hat he hath Power to ſave, appears by that [gap] follows.

[gap]rſt, To ſpeak only of him as he is Media [gap] [gap] was Authorized to this bleſſed Work, [gap] [gap]ather before the World began. Hence [gap]poſtle ſaid, He hath choſen us in him, before [gap]dation of the World, with all thoſe things

that effectuall, will produce our Salvatio[gap]

Read the ſame Chaptre, with 2 T[gap]m 19.

Secondly, He was promiſed to our firſt [gap] rents, that he ſhould in the Fulneſs of T[gap] Bruiſe the Serpent's Head; & as Paul expo[gap] it, redeem them that were under the Law. He[gap] ſince that time, he hath been reckoned as ſ[gap] for our Sins; by which means all the Fat[gap] under the firſt Teſtament were ſecured from [gap] Wrath to come; hence He is called. The [gap] ſtain from the Foundation of the World, Rev. 1[gap] Gen 3 15 Gal 4 4, 5.

Thirdly, Moſes gave Teſtimony of Him [gap] the Types and Shadows, and bloody Sacrif[gap] that he commanded from the Mouth of G[gap] to be in uſe to the Supporters of his Peop[gap] Faith, unt[gap]l the time of Reformation; whe[gap] was the time of Jeſus his Death, Hebrews 9.[gap] Chapters.

Fourthly, At the time of his Birth, 't[gap] teſtified of Him by the Angel, That He [gap] ſave his People from their Sins, Mat. 1 20.

Fifthly, It is Teſtified of Him in the Day [gap] his Freſh, that he had power on Earth to [gap] give Sins, Acts 30 31.

Sixthly, In a Word, This is every w[gap] Teſtified of Him, both in the Old Teſtam[gap] and the New,

And good reaſon that he ſhould be ackn[gap] ledged and truſted in as a Saviour.

1. He came down from Heaven to [gap] Saviour, John 6 38, 39.

2. He was anointed when on Earth to [gap] Saviour, Luke 3.22.

3 He did the Works of a Saviour: A[gap], [gap]

Firſt, He fulfilled the Law, and becam[gap]

[gap] of it for Righteouſneſs, for them that be [gap] in him, Rev 10 3, 4.

[gap]econdly, He laid down his Life as a Savi [gap]; He gave his Life at a Ranſom for many, [gap] 20.28. Mark 10 45 1 Tim 2.6.

Thirdly, He hath aboliſhed Death, deſtroyed [gap] Devil, put away Sin, got the Keys of Hell [gap] Death, is aſcended into Heaven; is there [gap]epted of God, and bid to ſit at the Right [gap]d as a Saviour; and that becauſe his Sa [gap]ice for Sins pleaſed God, 2 Tim 1.10. Heb. 2▪ [gap] Eph. 4 7. Joh 16.10. Acts 15.30, 31. Heb 10.12.

Fourthly God hath ſent out and Proclaimed [gap]n as a Saviour; & tells the World, that [gap] have Redemption thro' his Blood, that he [gap]ll juſtifie us, if we believe in his Blood, [gap]d that he can faithfully and juſtly do it. [gap], God doth beſeech us to be reconciled to [gap] by his Son; which could not be, if he [gap]e not appointed by him to this very end, [gap] alſo if his Works & Undertakings were [gap] accepted of him, as conſidered a Savi [gap], Rom. 3.2 4, 25. 2 Cor. 5.18.19, 20, 21.

[gap]ifthly, God hath already received Millions [gap] Souls into his Paradice, becauſe they have [gap]ived this Jeſus for a Saviour; & is reſolved [gap]ut them off, and to caſt them out of his [gap]ſence, that will not take him for a Savi [gap] ▪ Heb 12.22, 23, 24, 25, 26.

[gap] intend brevity here; therefore a Word to [gap] ſecond, and ſo I conclude.

How it appears that he hath power to caſt [gap].

[gap]his appears alſo by what follows.

[gap]ſt, The Father, (for the Service that he [gap] done him at a Saviour) hath made him

Lord of all, even Lord of Quick and [gap] For to this end Chriſt both died, and aroſe[gap] revived that he might be Lord both of the [gap] and Living, Rom 14 9.

Secondly, The Father hath left it with [gap] to quicken whom he will, viz. with ſ[gap] Grace, and to caſt out whom he will, for [gap] Rebellion againſt him, Joh. 5 21.

Thirdly, The Father hath made him [gap] of Quick and Dead, hath committed all Ju[gap] to the Son, and appointed that all ſhould honou[gap] Son, even as they honour the Father, Joh. 22 5.

Fourthly, God will Judge the World by [gap] Man; the day is appointed for Judgment, [gap] he is appointed for Judge. He hath appoin[gap] day in the which he will Judge the world with [gap] teouſneſs by that Man, Acts 17 31, 32.

Therefore we muſt all appear before the Judg[gap] Seat of Chriſt: that every one may receive fo[gap] things done in the Body, according to what they [gap] done. If they have cloſed with him, Heave[gap] Salvation; if they have not, Hell and Da[gap] tion.

And for theſe Reaſons he muſt be Judge.

Firſt, Becauſe of his Humiliation, becauſ[gap] his Father's Word he humbled himſelf, an[gap] became obedient unto Death, even the D[gap] of the Croſs; Therefore God hath highly [gap] alted him, and given him a Name above e[gap] Name, that at the Name of Jeſus every [gap] ſhall bow; both of things in Heaven & [gap] on Earth, and things under the Earth; [gap] every Tongue ſhould confeſs, Jeſus Chriſt [gap] Lord, to the Glory of God the Father.

This hath reſpect to his being Judge, and [gap] ſitting in Judgment upon Angels and▪ [gap] Phil. 2.7, 8.

[gap]condly, That all Men might honour the [gap] as they honour the Father, for the Father [gap]eth no Man, but hath commit[gap]ed all Judg [gap] unto the Son; that all Men ſhould ho [gap] the Son, even as they honour the Father, [gap] 5.22, 23.

[gap]hirdly, Becauſe of his Righteous Judgment, [gap] Work is fit for no Creature; it is only fit [gap] the Son of God. For he will reward every [gap] according to his ways, Rev. 2.2.

[gap]urthly, Becauſe he is the Son of Man, He [gap] given him Authority to execute Judgment [gap] becauſe he is the Son of Man, Job. 5.27.

[gap]hus have I in brief paſſed through this Text [gap]way of Explication; my next Work is to [gap] to it by way of Obſervation? But ſhall [gap]lſo as b[gap]f in that, as the nature of the [gap]g will admit.

[gap] that the Father giveth me, ſhall come to [gap] and him that cometh to me, I will in no [gap] caſt out, Joh. 6 37.

[gap]ow come to ſome Obſervations, & a little [gap]ly to ſpeak to them, and then conclude [gap] whole.

[gap]e words thus explained, afford us many; [gap] of which are theſe.

[gap]ſt, That God the Father, and Chriſt his [gap] are two diſtinct Perſons in the God. Head.

[gap]ndly. That by them (not excluding the [gap] Ghoſt) is contrived and determined the [gap] of fallen Mankind.

[gap]dly, That this Contrivance, reſolved it [gap]nto a Covenant between theſe Perſons in [gap] Head, which ſtandeth in giving, on [gap] [gap]er's Part; and receiving on the Sons. [gap] the Father giveth me, &c.

Fourthly, That every one that the Father [gap] given to Chriſt (according to the Mind of [gap] in the Text) ſhall certainly come to him.

Fifthly, That coming to Jeſus Chriſt is th[gap] fore not by the Will, Wiſdom; or Powe[gap] Man: but by the Gift, Promiſe, and dra[gap] of the Father. (All that the Father givet[gap] ſhall come).

Sixthly, That Jeſus Chriſt will be care[gap] receive▪ and will not in any wiſe reject [gap] that come, or are coming to him. And him [gap] cometh to me. I will in no wiſe caſt out.

There are beſide theſe ſome other Truth [gap] plyed in the Words As,

Seventhly, They that are coming to [gap] Chriſt are oftimes▪ heartily afraid he will [gap] receive them.

Eighthly, Jeſus Chriſt would not have t[gap] that in truth are coming to him, once [gap] that he will caſt them out.
