Question. But what doth God require in this command?
Answer. That I promote the advantage of my neighbour in every instance I can or may, and deal with him as I desire to be dealt with by others (Phil. 2;4): further also, that I faithfully labor, so that I may be able to relieve the needy (Heb. 13;16).
Proofs.
- [proof-1] Phil. 2;4.—Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.— Matt. 7;12.—Deut. 22;1-3.
- [proof-2] Heb. 13;16.—But to do good, and to communicate, forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.— Eph. 4;28.—2 Thess. 3;10, 11.
