Q. 115. Why will God then have the ten commands so strictly preached, since no man in this life can keep them?
Question. Why will God then have the ten commands so strictly preached, since no man in this life can keep them?
Answer. First, that all our life time, we may learn more and more to know our sinful nature, and thus become the more earnest in seeking the remission of sin, and righteousness in Christ (Rom. 3;20); likewise, that we constantly endeavor and pray to God for the grace of the Holy Spirit, that we may become more and more conformable to the image of God, until we arrive at the perfection proposed to us, in a life to come (1 Cor. 13;9, 10).
Proofs.
- [proof-1] Rom. 3;20.—By the law is the knowledge of sin.— Rom. 10;3, 4.—Rom. 7;7.—Matt. 5;6
- [proof-2] 1 Cor. 13;9, 10.—For we know in part, and we prophecy in part.—But when that which is perfect is come, that which is in part shall be done away.—1 John 3;2.—Phil. 3;12-14.—Ps. 51;10.—Deut. 31;11-13.—Ps. 119;4, 5.
- [proof-3] OF PRAYER.
