Q. 30. Do such then believe in Jesus the only Saviour, who seek their salvation and happiness of saints, of themselves or anywhere else?

Heidelberg Catechism

Question. Do such then believe in Jesus the only Saviour, who seek their salvation and happiness of saints, of themselves or anywhere else?

Answer. They do not; for though they boast of him in words yet in deeds they deny Jesus, the only deliverer and Saviour: for one of these two things must be true, that either Jesus is not a complete Saviour (Col. 1;19, 20), or that they, who by a true faith receive this Saviour, must find all things in him necessary to their salvation (Heb. 7;25).

Proofs.

  • [proof-1] Col. 1;19, 20.—For it pleased the Father than in him should all fulness dwell; and having made peace through the blood of the cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself.— Col. 2;10.—1 Cor. 1;13.—John 10;11.
  • [proof-2] Heb. 7;25.—He is able to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.— John 1;14. John 1;16.—Heb. 12;2.—Acts 16;31.
