Q. 42. Since then Christ died for us, why must we also die?
Question. Since then Christ died for us, why must we also die?
Answer. Our death is not a satisfaction for our sins, but only an abolishing of sin (Rom. 6;7); and a passage into eternal life (Phil. 1;21).
Proofs.
- [proof-1] Rom. 6;7.—For he that is dead is freed from sin.— Heb. 4;10.—Matt. 16;26.—1 Pet. 4;1.
- [proof-2] Phil. 1;21.—For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.— Phil. 1;23.—John 5;24.—2 Cor. 5;1.—Rev. 14;13.
