Q. 57. What comfort doth the “Resurrection of the body” afford thee?

Heidelberg Catechism

Question. What comfort doth the “Resurrection of the body” afford thee?

Answer. That not only my soul, after this life, shall be immediately taken up to Christ, its head (Phil. 1;23): but also that this my body, being raised by the power of Christ (John 5;28, 29), shall be reunited with my soul, and made like unto the glorious body of Christ (Phil. 3;21).

Proofs.

  • [proof-1] Phil. 1;23.—For I am in a straight betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better.— Luke 23;43.—Rev. 14;13.—Luke 16;22.—2 Cor. 5;8.
  • [proof-2] John 5;28, 29.—The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God, and they that hear shall live.—1 Cor. 15;53.—Job 19;25-27.—John 6;39, 40.
  • [proof-3] Phil. 3;21.—Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body.—1 Cor. 15;53.—1 Cor. 15;42, 43.
