Q. 64. But doth not this doctrine make men careless and profane?

Heidelberg Catechism

Question. But doth not this doctrine make men careless and profane?

Answer. By no means (Rom. 3;31): for it is impossible that those who are implanted into Christ by a true faith, should not bring forth fruits of thankfulness (John 15;5).

Proofs.

  • [proof-1] Rom. 3;31.—Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.— Rom. 6;1, 2.
  • [proof-2] John 15;5.—I am the vine, ye are the branches; he that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit.— Titus 3;8.—Matt. 7;18.—Titus 2;12.—2 Pet. 2;20.
  • [proof-3] OF THE SACRAMENTS.
