Q. 70. What is it to be washed with the blood and the spirit of Christ?
Question. What is it to be washed with the blood and the spirit of Christ?
Answer. It is to receive of God the remission of sins, freely, for the sake of Christ’s blood, which is shed for us by his sacrifice upon the cross (1 John 1;7); and also to be renewed by the Holy Ghost, and sanctified to be members of Christ, so that we may more and more die unto sin, and lead holy and unblamable lives (1 Cor. 6;11).
Proofs.
- [proof-1] 1 John 1;7.—And the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.— Rev. 1;5.—Eph. 1;7.—1 Pet. 2;24.
- [proof-2] 1 Cor. 6;11.—But ye are washed; but ye are sanctified; but ye are satisfied in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.— Rom. 6;4, 6.—1 Pet. 2;24.—Rom. 6;11.—Eph. 4;22-24.—Titus 3;5.
