Q. 93. How are these ten commandments divided?
Question. How are these ten commandments divided?
Answer. Into two tables (Deut. 4;13); the first of which teaches us how we must behave towards God (Matt. 22;37, 38); the second, what duties we owe to our neighbour (Matt. 22;39).
Proofs.
- [proof-1] Deut. 4;13.—And he declared unto you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, even ten commandments; and he wrote them upon two tables of stone.— Matt. 22;40.—Deut. 10;3, 4.
- [proof-2] Matt. 22;37, 38.—Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.— Mark 12;30.
- [proof-3] Matt. 22;39.—And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.— Mark 12;31.
