Come and Welcome to Jesus Christ

I come now to the Obſervation, and ſhall ſpeak a little to that; to wit,

THat Jeſus Chriſt would not have them, that in [gap] Truth are coming to Him once think that He [gap] caſt them out.

The Text is full of this: For he ſaith, And him [gap] cometh to me, I will in no wiſe caſt out. Now [gap]he ſaith▪ I will not, He would not have us think, [gap] will.

This is yet farther manifeſt by theſe Conſidera [gap]ion.

Firſt, Chriſt Jeſus did forbid even them. That as [gap] were not coming to him, Once to think him

ſuch an One. Do not think (ſaith he) that accuſe you to the Fathe[gap] John 5.45

Theſe (as I ſaith) were ſu[gap]h that as yet were coming to him: For he ſaith of them a little b[gap] and ye will not come to me. For the Reſpect [gap] had to the Honour of Men, kept them back, y[gap] ſay, Jeſus Chriſt gives them to underſtand, [gap] though he might juſtly reject them, yet he [gap] not, but bids them not once to think that he [gap] accuſe them to the Father. Now, not to are (with Chriſt) is to plead for: For Chriſtian things, ſtands not Neuter between the Father [gap] Sinners. So then if Jeſus Chriſt would not [gap] them think that. Yet will not come to him, [gap] he will accuſe them▪ then he would not that [gap] ſhould think ſo, that in Truth are coming to b[gap] And him that cometh to me, I will in no [gap] cast out.

Secondly, When the Woman taken in Adult[gap] (even in the very Act) was brought before Je[gap] Chriſt, ſo he carried it both by Words & A[gap]ti[gap] that he evidently enough made it manifeſt, t[gap] Condemning and Caſting out, were ſuch things, [gap] the doing of which he came not into the World.

Wherefore, when they had ſet her before him, [gap] had laid to her Charge her hainous Fact he ſtoo[gap] down, and with his Finger wrote upon the Grou[gap] as though he heard them not. Now what did [gap] do by this his Carriage, but teſtifie plainly , that [gap] was not for receiving Accuſations againſt poor S[gap] ners, whoever accuſed by? And Obſerve, Th[gap] they continue Asking, thinking at laſt to forth [gap] to Condemn her; yet when he ſo anſwer'd, as [gap] it drove all condemning Perſons from her. And [gap] he ad[gap] for her Encouragement to come to [gap] Neither do I Condemn thee? go and [gap] more, John 8 7.

Not but that he indeed abhorred the Fact, [gap] becauſe that was not his Office: He was not [gap] into the wo[gap]ld to Condemn the world▪ but [gap] the world through him might be ſaved, John▪ Now, if Chriſt, though urged to it, would [gap]

[gap] the Guilty Woman, though ſhe was far at [gap] from coming to him, he would not that they [gap] once think, that be will caſt them out that [gap]th are coming to him. And him that cometh [gap] I will in no wiſe caſt out.

[gap]rdly. Chriſt plainly bids the turning Sinner [gap]e[gap] & for bids him to entertain any ſuch tho't, [gap]e will caſt him out. Let the wicked forſake [gap]ay, and the unrighteous man his thoughts, and [gap] torn unto the Lord▪ and he will have mercy [gap] him; and to our God▪ for he will abundantly [gap]n, Iſa. 54 7.

[gap] [gap]o[gap]d, by bidding the Unrighteous forſake [gap] [gap]ghts, [gap]oth in ſpecial forbid, as I have ſaid, [gap] [gap]ſe though [gap] [gap]hat hinder the coming man in [gap] Prog[gap]eſs to Jeſus Chriſt▪ his unbelieving Tho'ts. [gap]herefore he bids him not only to forſake his [gap]s, but his Thoughts: Let the wicked forſake his [gap], and the unrighteous man his thoughts. 'Tis [gap] enough to forſake one, if thou wilt come to Je [gap] Chriſt; becauſe the other will keep thee from [gap] Suppoſe a man forſakes his wicked ways, his [gap]ached and filthy Life; yet if theſe tho'ts that [gap] Chriſt will not receive him be entertained and [gap]iſhed in his Heart, them thoughts will keep [gap] from coming to Jeſus Chriſt.

[gap]inner Coming Sinner, art thou for coming to [gap]s Chriſt? Yes, ſa[gap]s the Sinner. Forſake thy [gap]ked ways then. So I do, ſays the Sinner. Why [gap]rſt thou then ſo ſlowly? Becauſe I am hindred? [gap]t hinders thee? Has God for hidden thee? No, [gap] thou not willing to come faſter? Yes yet I [gap]ot. Well, p[gap]ithe be plain with me, and tell me [gap] Reaſon and Ground of thy Diſcouragement: [gap], (ſaith the Sinner) though God forbids me [gap] and though I am willing to come faſter yet [gap]e naturally ariſeth this, and that, and the other [gap]ght in my Heart, that hinders my ſpeed to Je [gap] Chriſt. Sometimes I think I am not Choſen; [gap]times I think I am not Called▪ ſometimes I [gap]k I am come too Late▪ and ſometimes I think, [gap]w not what it is to come. Alſo one while I

think I have no Grace, and then again that I [gap] not Pray: and then again I think, that I am a [gap] Hypocrite. And theſe things keep me from [gap] ming to Jeſus Chriſt.

Look ye now! Did not I tell ye ſo? There [gap] Thoughts yet remaining in the Heart, even of th[gap] who have forſaken their wicked Ways: and [gap] thoſe Thoughts they are more plagued, than [gap] any thing elſe? becauſe they hinder their co[gap] to Jeſus Chriſt. For the Sin of Unbelief, which [gap] the Original of all theſe Thoughts, is that [gap] beſets a coming Sinner more eaſily than doth [gap] ways, Heb. 12.1, 2, 3 4.

But now, ſince Jeſus Chriſt commands thee [gap] forſake theſe Thoughts▪ forſake them, coming [gap] ner: and if thou forſake them not, thou tranſg[gap] leſt the Commands of Chriſt▪ & abideſt thine o[gap] Tormentor, and keepeſt thy ſelf from the Eſ[gap] bliſhment in Grace. If ye will not believe, ye [gap] not be eſtabliſhed, Iſa. 7.9.

Thus you ſee how Jeſus Chriſt ſetteth himſelf [gap] gainſt ſuch Thoughts, that any way diſcourage [gap] coming Sinner: and thereby truly vindicates [gap] Doctrine we have in Hand? to wit, That Je[gap] Chriſt would not have them that in Truth [gap] coming to him, once think, that He will caſt th[gap] out. And him that cometh to me, I will in [gap] wiſe caſt out.
