Q. 128. How do you conclude your prayer?
Question. How do you conclude your prayer?
Answer. “For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever.” That is, all these we ask, because thou art our King and almighty, art willing willing and able to give us all good (Ps. 5;2): and all this we pray for, that thereby not we, but thy holy name, may be glorified for ever (Ps. 115;1).
Proofs.
- [proof-1] Ps. 5;2.—Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God; for unto thee will I pray.— Isa. 33;22.—Ps. 10;16.—Ps. 47;2.
- [proof-2] Ps. 115;1.—Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but unto thy holy name, give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth’s sake.— John 14;13.—Jer. 33;8, 9.—Dan. 9;19.—Isa. 37;20.—2 Chron. 20;6.
