Q. 87. Cannot they then be saved, who, continuing in their wicked and ungrateful lives, are not converted to God?

Heidelberg Catechism

Question. Cannot they then be saved, who, continuing in their wicked and ungrateful lives, are not converted to God?

Answer. By no means (Matt. 18;3); for the holy scripture declares that no unchaste person, idolater, adulterer, thief, covetous man, drunkard, slanderer, robber, or any such like, shall inherit the kingdom of God (Eph. 5;5).

Proofs.

  • [proof-1] Matt. 18;3.—Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.—1 Cor. 6;9.—Acts 3;19.
  • [proof-2] Eph. 5;5.—For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.—1 Cor. 6;9, 10.—Gal. 5;19-21.—1 John 3;15.—Rev. 21;27.
